More Layoffs At Newmar

NAPPANEE — Another round of layoffs is on the way for workers at Newmar RV in Nappanee.

The company says they'll lay off a small number of remaining employees on Wednesday.
In February, they laid off nearly 120 workers — about 13 percent of their workforce.

Last month, they laid off another 20 percent, about 160 people. That only leaves about 630 of the original 900 workers.

The company says high gas prices and a sluggish economy are to blame.

The above article was on the WSBT.com website.

I'm not sure if the numbers that are quoted are very accurate. Newmar was stated to have almost 1,300 employees at the peak of business. It's really hard to believe that there are 630 employess left at the facilities.

Unless those numbers include all the management positions that were created at Newmar, It's hard to believe they would still have a work force of 630 people only to produce 13 units a week.

It also needs to be stated that the high gas prices and sluggish economy are not the main reasons for all the layoffs at Newmar. It all started when the new President and Vice President of Newmar started. Their poor decision making, time after time - has been the direct result of the decline in sales for Newmar Corp.

While other companies where thriving - you would hear the same old story during the quarterly meetins at Newmar. The economy! That was five years ago these guys were blaming their bad decisions and making the economy as their scapegoat. All other companies were hiring and increasing production. Newmar's management team is the main reason for their failure.

The economy became a secondary issue to the problem at Newmar. It's the same old story - instead of fessing up and saying that hey - We took some risks that we thought would help the company but instead the wound up being bad decisions. We are learning from our mistakes and moving forward. Let the people know the truth and they will respect you. The workers at Newmar Corporation have had an all time low morale issue since the new management team started making all those bad decisions and blaming everyone else instead of taking it like a man and admitting their maistakes.

The end results has created a segregated team at Newmar. The employees lost their confidence and respect in the Newmar management team and thus the quality of the product continued on a downward spiral. When the going get's tough - blame the other guy!
